Kalisuci lies in Pacarejo, the same village area as Jomblang, only a few kilometres away. Here a river flowing across the karst drops into a deep, forested gorge and runs through a series of short caves and open pools before disappearing underground for good — part of the same subterranean drainage that passes beneath Grubug Cave.
Cave tubing at Kalisuci is run by the local community and is a step up from Pindul in adventure: you climb down steps into the gorge, float through cave passages with gentle rapids between them, and climb back out at the end. Groups are small and the setting is far wilder. The trade-off is reliability, because the activity depends on the water level.
What to see and do: Kalisuci Cave Tubing
Tube through the caves
The usual route floats through two or three cave sections linked by open stretches of river under the jungle canopy, taking around one and a half to two hours in all.
Swim in the gorge pools
Between the caves the river widens into clear, green pools in the dry season, where guides stop for a swim.
Pair it with Jomblang
Because the two are so close, Kalisuci is the most time-efficient afternoon add-on after the cave — when it is open.
How to get to Kalisuci Cave Tubing
- From Jomblang: a few kilometres on village roads, 10–15 minutes by car.
- From Yogyakarta: about 50 km, 1.5–2 hours, by the same route as Jomblang.
- By tour: a small number of GetYourGuide tours pair Jomblang with Kalisuci; a private driver can also take you.
Insider tips
- Kalisuci is often closed in the rainy season and after any heavy rain, when the river rises quickly. Have Pindul as a fallback.
- Expect steep steps in and out of the gorge; you need to be reasonably mobile.
- Helmets, life jackets and tubes are provided. Wear shoes or sandals that will stay on in the water.
- We could not find a free-licence photograph of the river itself, so the images on this page show the surrounding karst and a neighbouring cave mouth rather than Kalisuci.
